Cat on a Hot Tiled Roof - Book Review

Anna Nicholas: Sequel to A Lizard in My Luggage

Aug 15, 2008 Rachel L. Webb

A fast-paced amusing sequel of the life of Anna Nicholas between rural living, fast-paced London PR events and her next project - read it and see!

She’s back the glamorous island-hopping marathon-running, snail-hunting PR Anna Nicholas has produced an equally excellent sequel to A Lizard in My Luggage with Cat on a Hot Tiled Roof.

A Lizard in My Luggage

Her first book tells of the impulsive purchase of a run-down Mallorcan farmhouse while on holiday there, it then becomes her main base as she commutes between the Spanish Island and London UK, but the commute becomes a burden as leaving her new-found life and very different home becomes more difficult to leave behind each trip.

Cat on a Hot Tiled Roof

This book bounces with life and enthusiasm from one event to anther – a live-wire of a book. Nicholas must never sit still. The simpler life-style draws her more and more to her Mallorcan base and glamorous world of the rich and famous palls.

As a follow-on to her first book it’s an amusing next chapter of life after buying and restoring her ruin of a farmhouse as Nicholas is still balancing her time between two lives, while rather secretly drawing up her next plan – not quite in keeping with her work to date. Her latest venture is a cattery but not just any cattery a lifestyle cattery for luxury-living cats!

So between finding sheep in her kitchen, arranging a major PR event in London and her regular chats with her resident world-wise toad she squeezes in a cattery course and language lessons.

It’s into this wacky world that Nicholas shares with us her country living and get-set entertaining; commuting to visit rich clients and chastising crazy cockerels is all in a weeks work.

Nicholas is determined to leave her Mayfair PR agency while her assistant thinks that her cattery for posh gatos is a joke, along with her husband who’s realizing just how serious she is and whether hens, cats and toads are a good mix.

Will she eventually leave London and gain some pampered furry lodgers or will this great juggler of life just carry on doing it all. This is a woman with stamina and a great gusto for living in the fast lane, perhaps cats in the country will not be enough.

Life for Nicholas is like a rollercoaster, rural valleys and metropolis highs, a book to roll with, snigger with and sigh with. Whatever is in her future Nicholas will give it her best, her enthusiasm is contagious use the book as a pep-up pill if you’re in need of a bout of positivity, an encouragement if you’re on the move to a new life or a good kick to make it all happen even if there's not enough hours in a day.
