Thinking about visiting Alaska? Don't plan a trip without the "Milepost Alaska Travel Planner", a guide to sightseeing wildlife viewing, camping, fishing or touring Alask

The Milepost, the Alaska Travel Planner is a large guidebook that provides step-by-step itineraries with descriptions of highways, and destination and community information for all areas in Alaska and northwestern Canada. The directory is a must-have for people traveling to these areas. It is about the size of a small telephone book, 800 pages, including the index, and it contains information on all of the highways in Alaska, the Yukon Territory, Northwest Territory, and other areas.

What's Inside the Milepost Guidebook for Alaska

The maps and color photos are throughout the guide, making it a helpful companion for trips. Like a phone directory, the guide has advertisements throughout. However, some travelers may find that the ads themselves are useful. After all, most are in color, are descriptive and provide contact information for area attractions.

Travelers to Alaska who need help deciding on where to go and how to get to their destinations will love the itineraries in this guide. The pages are large, easy to read, and the maps are clear and a breeze to use for navigation. Four basic itineraries via the Alaska Highway from the West Access Route, East Access to Alaska Highway and Klondike Loop, Inside Passage Klondike Loop, and Deh Cho Route are provided. The itineraries are basic guides to travel into Alaska using different routes.

A general summary of what to see, scenic roads, historic goldmines, and hot springs are indicated in the text. The itineraries are not broken down into day-by-day guides, but major attractions for each area are listed in a blue box in the guide for each itinerary. Information of where to find thorough descriptions, and detailed guides and maps for areas that are mentioned in the itineraries are cross referenced.

Summary of the Alaska Travel Planner

A bonus in the guide book is a Plan-a-Trip Map, a pull-out map in color with an activities chart, mileage chart, and fish run chart. The map is printed on sturdier paper than other guides, so it will take a little wear and tear. The beauty of the guide is the breadth of information that it contains.

Internet users will be pleased to know that the Milepost includes a free digital edition. Register and join the VIP Traveler's club. Insert the access code that is provided in the guide and use the digital guide to plan trips with easily searched content from the print version. The online guide, also has videos, slideshows, and audio.
