In this beautiful book, Tuscany, A Closer Look, author and photographer Seghers presents us with a truly vivid look at the landscape, towns and people of Tuscany, Italy

Tuscany, A Closer Look is markedly different from the average photographic coffee-table book of Italy. Ordinarily, when you open one of them you expect to see beautiful photographs of landscapes, major cities, prominent museums, historic cathedrals, Etruscan ruins, etc., and you are rarely disappointed. The photographers have covered as wide an area as possible to find the best and most photogenic examples of the particular theme or subject of their books. It is analogous to the goal of the tour director – cover the maximum territory and see as much as possible in the time allotted.

Tuscany, A Closer Look - The Book

After hobnobbing for years in the States with members of Italian social and cultural organizations, Bob Seghers learned that many of them longed for a closer look at everyday Italian life, more than they had glimpsed from tour bus windows and speeding trains. So he zeroed in on a circle of Tuscan countryside, just 15 miles in diameter, for the "closer look" of the book's title. Every picture was shot within that circle.

You will still find beautiful landscapes, but there are also street scenes, fascinating faces, a wine harvest, sporting and social activities, life along the Arno River, community events, and close-ups of various facets of Italian life that appealed to Bob's superb photographic eye, and often to his sense of humor.

The book makes an ideal gift for anyone with an intense interest in Italy. It also provides unique insights into the advantages of remaining in one area during a visit, in contrast to a wide-ranging tour.

About the Author, Robert Seghers

At age 12, Bob Seghers had his first camera and darkroom. He has spent many hours of his life behind a camera, although his principal profession has been in sales and marketing. He has often regretted the choice, though, and says, "I suspect I'm a square peg that blundered past the square hole of photography and stumbled into the round hole of marketing." Perhaps Tuscany, A Closer Look will prove him right He lives in Italy, near Florence, with his wife and dog, and is in the process of making up for lost time.
